Social change: how culture and social insituions change over ime. Lenski: evoluion of society consists of four main stages: huning and gathering; agricultural, industrial; post-industrial. Industrial socieies: mechanizaion was instrumental in fueling social change: enlightenment: 18th-century movement that championed free speech, freedom of conscience, equal rights, industrial socieies had less equality than agricultural. Post-industrial socieies: social change occurs when economies shit from manufacturing to service and technology. Such socieies are characterized by: shit from manufacturing to services, centrality of new science-based industries, rise of new technical elites. Collecive behaviour: any social interacion in which a group engages in behavior that is not their normal rouine. Hysteria: heightened emoional state that can lead a group to violence. Riots: emoional and violent disturbances of the peace by a crowd but unlike mobs, those involved have no centralized focus lashing out at anything and everything. Fashions: objects, styles, or behaviors that become popular for a period of ime.
