Educaion: social insituion through which society passes on knowledge, skills, and values from one generaion to the next. Paraguay, sri lanka, and the philippines are countries in which one in ive students go to school without running water. Sierra leone: only 47% of men and 24% of women over the age of 15 are literate: well below the world literacy rate of 88% for men and 79% for women. Sub-saharan africa spends ~2. 4% on educaion yet has ~15% of the school-age populaion. North america and western europe spends ~55% despite having ~8% of the world"s populaion. Grade inlaion: trend of assigning higher grades than previously assigned to students for compleing the same work. No zero policy: trend which prohibits teachers from giving students a zero on missed assignments and tests. Human capital: individual"s combinaion of skills, knowledge, traits, and personal atributes. Credenialism: emphasis on educaional degrees in assessing skills and knowledge.
