Document Summary

Dramaturgical approach- we could study social life as if it is a theatrical performance that we are observing. People"s interacion with each other is essenially a performance and we are observing how people act with each other. We are constantly interpreing the acions of others. We are constantly observing the impressions people are giving of. Ex: if you got ickets to a ballet they give you praciced, polished, rehearsed show, you see the inal product. People who give a front stage performance: poliicians, musicians, professor, and first date. When you give a front stage performance you are trying to foster and impression in the minds of others that you are competent. You are trying to manage the impressions that others have of you that you want them to have. Back stage performance- the arena the audience (members of society) do not have access too.
