Focusing on process: process is critical in group work, but often gets overlooked when
facilitators become too engaged in the content of the discussion, while the content may be
interesting and important its frequently the process that is the most important issue to attend to in
a group, focusing on the process includes pointing out patterns to the group and reframing issues.
Cueing: the facilitator scans the group, takes its pulse as it were and becomes instrumental in
inviting silent or non- participating members to engage in the group process.
Supporting: the facilitator is required when to determine when to support a group member.
Jumping to early might prevent the member from fully exploring a situation and learning from it.
This skill is also used for individuals in the group to support each other. Feeling “all in the same
boat” is a healing aspect of the group and lets the individual know they are not alone

said in group and the group facilitator must try to block certain comments or activities in order to
maintain the safety of the group.
