Head tax: Chinese immigration head tax. between 1882-1884, 15,00o Chinese’s workers
were brought to Canada from china to work labor contracts on the pacific railroad. but a
series of laws were put in place to exclude or limit the number of Chinese and south Asian
immigrants. a head tax of 50$ in 1885 raised to 100$ in 1901 and 500 in 1904. this was
eliminated in 1923, but other laws were made with made it nearly impossible for Chinese
immigrants to bring their families to Canada and forced separation. Stephen harper
apologized for the head tax

Internment: during ww1 and ww2 the Canadian government instituted a policy of interment
of members of ethnic minority groups whom it defined as “enemy aliens”. Japanese
Canadians were uprooted from their homes and held in similar camps during world 2.
Anti-black racism: racism towards back people, should not be minimized. Canada practiced
slavery until the nineteenth century. black Canadians were subject to legislation that enforced
segregated schools and communities and that limited property rights.

black citizens the right to pursue formal education., respectable jobs, welfare assistance
and civil and humanitarian rights.

since these terms make clear

covert, when society systematically treats groups according to some form of discriminatory
judgement
multiculturalism act: 1971 Canada became first Canada to adopt this as a policy.
in 1988 restated the 1971 act that states federal departments ensure equal employment
opportunity for ethic and racial groups.

-race is not a biological concept but a social constructed one.
-visible minority supports a practice were ‘by non-white groups are categorized by almost solely
by race whereas white groups are not,
