When these desires a fulfilled, we are satisfied until the desires return: desires are recurrent, both a tending toward and a resting. The tending is in the desire and the rest is in the satisfaction. Many of these recurring desires we share with other animals: hungry, thirst, etc. Desires ensure our individual survival and the survival of the species to which we belong. Humans however, have a desire to know things: to seek knowledge is to wonder about something that we do not yet know.
