Document Summary
Thinking in solving problems: steps and strategies, problems in problem solving. Thinking in making decisions: heuristics, role of emotions. Many forms of thinking: mental imagery, internalized language, spatial navigation. Thinking involves many cognitive (mental) processes including attention, working memory, monitoring, reasoning, planning, etc. Main topics areas in psychology are: how we solve problems, how we make decisions, how we think about our own thoughts. Different forms of thinking develop at different rates: thought involving language emerge around the time that language capabilities form, but those that involve reasoning form later.
