Implicit learning: the acquisition of information without answer
Spatial navigation learning: learning that involves forming associations
among stimuli relevant to navigating in space
Latent learning: a form of learning that is not expressed until a reward
or incentive. Learning without reinforcement.
Tolman: placed rats in a maze without giving a reinforce, then he
reinforced them correctly solving the maze quickly
Insight learning: a sudden realization of a solution to a problem or leap
in understanding new concepts. Involves a sudden realization of a
solution to a novel problem. Occurs implicitly without reinforcement
Intrinsic motivation: a desire to perform a behavior for its own sake,
implies a cognitive appraisal of the situation, doesn’t fit with operant
principles
Module 40: factors that facilitate learning
Timing: multiple exposures separated by tie facilitate learning
Context effect: studying in several different locations increase the
likelihood that you will form strong memories about the information
Awareness and attention: multi-tasking reduces overall performance, if
information is inherently contradictor, attending to one stimulus can
block our ability to attend to the relevant one
Sleep: sleep deprivation impairs UT abilities to pay attention and learn
The Stroop effect. Illustrates how when information is inherently
contradictory attending to one stimulus can block our ability to the
relevant task.
