Research ethics boards (reb) are considered the ethics police. Ethical guidelines: obtain informed consent obtaining permission from the participant after they know what the study involves and the risks and benefits of participating. Given a list of all the things that will happen to you and any risks or benefits (if any) that may be associated with the experiment. Let people decide if they want to participate or not: protect participants from harm and discomfort. If the board reviews the procedure and thinks there"s too much risk or discomfort, there may have to me modifications made to the experiment: protect confidentiality. Subjects often given numbers which is kept separate from name. Should be explained how confidentiality will be ensured before the research is done: participation must be voluntary. Can"t try to pay people to do the research or anything of the such: deception or incomplete disclosure.
