Approximately 20,000 years ago, aboriginal people were in north america. 400-500 years ago europeans came to north america. All territories taken ater 1763 in canada had to be done so with treaies. First naions were given pieces of land and/or rights such as for huning and ishing. Indian act: purpose was to assimilate irst naions into canadian culture. Aboriginals had very litle power over their own lives. Residenial schools: took children out of their homes, taught new languages and religions, and boarded so that their only interacions were to form a new culture. Aboriginals could not hire a lawyer to represent them if they felt as though they"ve been wronged, unless the federal government allowed it. First rebellion (red river) ended with establishment of manitoba.
