Document Summary
Coronary vascular disorders: coronary artery disease is the most prevalent type of cardiovascular disease in adults. This contributes to deaths, hospital stays, patient symptoms and distress, and caregiver burden: coronary artery disease is a type of blood vessel disorder that is included in the general category of atherosclerosis. Ischemic heart disease (ihd: with coronary artery disease, the coronary arteries are narrowed and there is decreased blood flow to the heart, causing ischemia which may result in mi or heart failure. Atherosclerosis: the most common cause of cardiovascular disease in canada is atherosclerosis. This is an abnormal accumulation of lipid, or fatty, substances and fibrous tissue in the lining of arterial blood vessel walls. Caused by eating a high fatty diet and/or diabetes. These substances cause blockages and narrow the coronary vessels in a way that reduces blood flow to the myocardium. Pathophysiology: atherosclerosis begins with inflammation and injury to the lining of the arterial wall (endothelium).
