Mccaffery- pain is whatever the experiencing person says it is, existing whenever he says it does . Iasp- an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage . Pain threshold- lowest threshold at which a stimulus is perceived as pain. Pain tolerance- length of time or intensity a person will endure before asking for pain relief. Somative pain- arises from bone, joint, muscle, skin or connective tissue, usually aching or throbbing in quality and well localized. Visceral pain- arises from organs, e. g. , the gi tract or tumour involvement of organ aching and well-localized pain. Abnormal processing of sensory input by the peripheral or central nervous system. Usually of sudden onset, short-lived, or transient; easily treated with medications for short duration. Constant pain or of long duration (3-6 months) Believe the person"s self-report, establish cause of pain and initiate appropriate treatment.
