Children come to trick or treat, the kid invited in the house, given candy. First condition big bowl of candy, and a mirror facing the child. The person leaves and says you can take 1 piece of candy. The ones who can"t see themselves are more likely to disobey. We are more self-aware/conscious when the mirror faces us. We are more likely to follow the rules set by the authority figures rather than disobeying. Cooley and mead: this finding would tell us about our selves, 2 processes. Symbolic interaction: the self and social basis of self, the self is created from the outside in. Self concept/schema: thoughts about who we are, our perceptions of social identity and personal qualities. We have to know we exist to have a self. What we think we know about ourselves. Early development of self awareness: mirror test. Put mirror in front of baby and observe if it is able to recognize itself.
