Family violence is underreported *** fear, guilt, financial dependence etc : children don"t report to police. Large proportion of family violence victims are victims of spousal violence. Women = more likely to be victims: men are more likely to be victims of violent crime more generally females are more likely to be victims of family violence. Prevalence of victimization: police data 26% are victims by someone in their family. Infidelity: killing as the final act of violence, stressful life events. Mental illness of the offender: these homicides are different. Involve extreme and sexualized violence: extreme violence killing, rape, be motivated by anger over separation, be followed by suicide of the offender, be accompanied by the killing of additional victims, typically children. Involve multiple methods of killing and excessive force.
