Socializaion: the social process whereby people undergo development by interacing with people around them (don"t need to memorize this) Important to know: acive process and is interacional. We need social interacion for brain, intellectual, social, and physical development (i. e. , ine and gross motor development) Nature vs nurture: o o o o o. Historical and contemporary studies of feral and neglected children. Example: genie wiley - never learned language and basic skills - was locked in her room, someimes ied to poty chair - severely neglected - basic needs taken from her - deprived of human interacion. Twin studies - raised in diferent environments - allow us to study early socializaion - study the nature vs. nurture theory. Socializaion happens from birth to death - constantly being socialized. Develop a sense of ourselves; self-concept develops in relaion to others who are interacing with you through various agents of socializaion. Agents of socializaion o family, school, peers, media, religion.
