Interactive media: now tv, radio have all become more interactive, social media not only the technologies but how it develops our lives (wikis, blogs, podcasts, email, twitter) Structural functionalism: media reinforces social solidarity, concerns we need more canadian content national identity is being taken over by american tv (cultural empiricism over canadians, quebec stronger commitment to promote french canadian culture. Argument: americans interests in human rights are subordinated to big businesses. Manufacturing consent can get us to think about issues in a certain way. Digital divide: who has access to technology, more affluent nations/people. Second digital divide: how technologies are used, computers used for gaming or education etc. Ex: use of north american journalists who go to iraq w military (embedded journalist) give use a picture of whats happening but may be biased as integrate with military personal. Its takes up most of our time.
