Used to be a distinction between mass media and interactive media. Mass media used to be considered as a one way process, radio, tv transmitting info to listening or watching audience. Interactive media (a computer), tv, radio, etc have now all become interactive as well. Now people encourage the media, saying to call email or follow celebs on social media. The term social media captures new internet based technologies and how humans have transformed and how we interact with each other. They would explore the way media can be used to reinforces shared values and conesus. Canadian example: the concern raised by canadians who say we need to have more. Canadian content on tv and radio, that american programing undermines our ability to develop and articulate a national culture as canadians which is argued to be very important. Our national identity of canadians is being eroded by americans that americans are cultural imperialism.
