Social stratification refers to the patterns of social inequality that exist because of how wealth, power, and prestige are distributed across society and passed down from one generation to the next. Rates in income inequality have varied even in our most recent history. The gap b/w the rich and poor has grown in the last decade. Rates of child poverty have increased in the past decade. Race and ethnicity factor in on child poverty. Discussion question agree or disagree: inequality has always existed and will always exist. We will always have rich and poor people in society and there is no escaping that fact. How can you use what you"ve learned in the course thus far to evaluate this statement: poor people are lazy and don"t want to work. > social research shoes the higher someone"s social class the better their mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing will be. Greater risk for chronic illnesses, and infectious diseases.
