Where are we in the world: buddhism is a religion of the gangetic plane, brahmanic religion is a religion of the gangetic plane. When are we in the world: 1700 bce - beginning of (cid:406)ryan migrations, which continued over several centuries, 1500-800 bce oral composition and transmission of the (cid:2521)gveda, 800-500 bce transformation of vedic religion into brahmanic religion. The gveda: composed in sanskrit (indo-european language) c. 1500-800 bce. It contains 1028 hymns in 10 books (ma alas) that are recited/sung during religious sacrifices: the hymns praise the vedic gods, describe their activities, while alluding to various aspects of. It nourishes the gods, it keeps the world existing and there are individual benefits as well, ex, people sacrificing for rain, to get healthy children, etc. In terms of knowledge-they were not allowed to study vedic text because of a patriarchal society: brahmans are carrying these texts orally and writing the texts to justify their own status in society.
