In canada average ages of menarche 13 years: early and late menarche by province, secular trend: age of menarche is becoming younger, menarche is affected by nutrition and physical exertion. In other countries: figure 2. 7: comes later in poorer countries, affected by social class. Girls in puberty: leaving childhood brings pride and stress, some not prepared for menarche, early vs late, early are more anxious and depressed, early maturing girls draw more attention from older boys. Boys: early boy more popular with peers, early mature more depressed.
