Obsessive compulsive and related disorders in dsm-v (only looking at ocd) Body dysmorphic disorder (believing body parts are weirdly or oddly shaped) Obsessive-compulsive and elated disorder to another medical condition. Dsm-v criteria: either (or commonly both) obsessions or compulsions (o/c) Obsessions: persistent, intrusive thoughts, urges or images that cause anxiety or distress in most individuals, and that the individual tries to ignore, suppress or neutralize. Compulsions: repetitive behaviours or thoughts individuals compelled to perform in response to an obsession or according to rigid rules. Hand-washing, organizing and ordering, checking and rechecking, counting, repeating words silently. Obsessive/compulsive take more than 1 hour a day, or cause clinically significant impairment. Not due to a substance, or another medical condition. Disturbance not better explained by symptoms of another mental disorder. Usually starts in adolescence, early adulthood (can begin in childhood) For adult ocd, males to females ratio is 1:1. For childhood ocd< the ratio is 3:1 males per female.
