Constructivist: thinks that children construct their own knowledge and the construction contin. Kids have experiences and come up w/ their own ideas of how the world works. Important for our ability to survive our env"t. Figuring out how to live in our world. Goal of intelligence is establishment and maintenance of cognitive equilibrium. Balance relationship btwn what you know and what you experience. What you"re able to figure out cognitively and what you"re actually doing in the world. We can explain what is happening around us. This is what makes kids active, motivated learners. Kids don"t have to be forced to learn b/c it"s uncomfortable to not be in ce. When there is no balance, they"re in a state of cognitive disequilibrium. They use what they know as the context for figuring out what they don"t know. If you don"t understand one aspect, then you cannot answer questions related to it.
