Glucose is the primary source of energy for the brain. Can store in the form of glycogen in muscles and liver. Converts back into glucose for use: when glycogen stores deplete, you get hungry. Neuro peptide y: npy is an appetite stimulant, high levels of npy in the hypothalamus are associated with hunger, high levels of npy in the hypothalamus are associated with hunger. Satiety and the liver: when the liver senses glucose, you stop being hungry, the liver breaks down glycogen and the pancreas produces insulin. Leptin & npy: npy activity in the hypothalamus stimulates appetite, high levels of leptin inhibit npy, together, they interact to keep your weight at optimal levels, npy increases intake of carb consumption and reward food like sucrose.
