Document Summary

Feeding is as much a lifestyle as it is a necessity. Hunger and satiety: hunger an satiety cycles throughout the day. Some glycogen is stored in muscles, but mostly in the liver, where it is converted into glucose, when the blood glucose levels are low. Similar activity is observed in fish, reptile, and mammals. Liver monitors glucose levels to control hunger and satiety. Small intestine produces colycicikynin (cck) which is a hormone responsible for feelings of satiety: receptors in the brain receive cck and you stop eating. If you inject individuals with cck, you"d have shorter meal durations, however, one may eat more smaller meals per day and the food intake: cck regulates short-term satiety. Fat is a form of long-term energy storage: adipose tissue is an endocrine organ. Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipose tissue which correlates with fat mass: when leptin levels rise, they signal hypothalamus to reduce appetite, and decrease food consumption.
