The only way to take a free state is to kill people since they will not submit. Being a prince is a very unstable business. Shows why princes face all these difficulty; because people want to live free under their own rules. They forge virtue out of cause, they are only dependant on their own skills: the a(cid:396)(cid:373) p(cid:396)ofit (cid:862)the best ruler does not just depend on force, but also from faith. Using religion and conviction to draw people on their side. Politics deals with unpredictably: a good political association is prepared and can combat these changes, virtues are the skills that constrain the unpredictably that fortune throws at us, princes need to control this, political virtues, not moral. Glory is the measure of a good prince to mac. It removes the moral foundations of virtues and morality of political life.
