POLSCI 2O06 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Jerusalem In Christianity, Sophist
Document Summary
*philosophers, socrates says, must rule for this to be a truly just city. There is the material world, or the visible world. The knowledge we have of this world comes to us from our senses. Then, there is the intelligible realm, a world of concepts and ideas. The knowledge we have of this world comes to us through our minds. This world is made up of the forms. Beauty, there"s many things that we call beautiful however this things in themselves aren"t beauty . Because beauty is a concept - a form. No material object can be the form of beauty itself, it will always have some form of non-beauty. So, what kind of knowledge do philosophers seek that would make them good rulers. They don"t accept common ideas of what truth is, but rather they seek to nd out truth. True knowledge, will be things that are always true. They aren"t true only some of the time.
