International terrorism
Three overarching questions about terrorism:
1. Can we define terrorism in an objective way?
2. Can we explain terrorism as a social scientific phenomenon?
3. What were/are the consequences of the “War on Terror”?
Was the American War on Terror a reasonable policy response to 9/11?
Terrorism
-A security issue that everyone has a sense of (COD, movies, real life events on
news)
-Fear, panic, shock, disbelief are a lot of feelings that occurred in regards to 9/11
-States love the term terrorism as long as it applies to everyone but them
-Breaking down terrorism into a form
Definition:
A necessary first step before analyzing terrorism is to define it
What is terrorism?
There is a politics associated with defining terrorism
The term is notoriously loaded
-Terrorism entails violence
-The term terrorism is used to work in favour of particular parties/states
-Terrorism is a political label, it is something that’s subjective
