PNB 3RM3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Statistical Hypothesis Testing, Spontaneous Remission, Participant Observation
Document Summary
Ps are exposed to certain things in every day life / information that may affect their results (learning things that they already knew and they didn"t gain any knowledge from the training phase) During pre and post tests, something outside of the experiment can occur in every day life that makes individuals perform differently. Development and the stuff that comes with it (children, older adults) can have confounding results. Internal things happening to the individual: regression to the mean. People will perform exceptionally well / poor in one instance and in the next instance they will perform a little bit worse / better the next time: things balance out naturally, spontaneous remission. Tendency for things to improve with time without any type of intervention. Qualitative research is good for: generating novel questions, providing details of particular groups / situations, involves asking very open-ended questions on the ideas that you are interested in.
