Richard fineman: 20th century physicist - there is an enormous amount of information about the world held in a single sentence about the atomic theory; it is the most important sentence in science. Epicurus is a distinct alternative to plato and aristotle, yet remains true to socrates. The ancients had a distinction between philosophy and philosophical discourse that we do not.
