Document Summary

Music for film & television lecture 5. Worried that it would be a flop. The score saved the film, it was hailed as one of the greatest films of 1933. It was known as one of the films that saved music in hollywood. Max steiner developed the association of music with the supernatural (ex. fog is the barrier in the island) The music starts when you enter the world of whatever the supernatural is. When the ship enters the fog, the music is associated with the supernatural. The music is atonal, there is a sense of anticipation to it and it is very slow moving. It builds a sense of anticipation of what is going to be on the other side of the fog. The next video is going to be the next morning and we see the island for the first time.
