MEDRADSC 3C03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Cath Lab, Redone, Femur
Document Summary
Increase flow: balloons, stents, stent-grafts, thrombolysis or thrombectomy - anything to increase flow through a vessel. Decrease flow: ie) bleeds; embolization, use of glue, possibly ivc filters, surgical clips. Implant devices: ivc filter, stent, coil, clip - all effect flow. Remove things: chance of gw/catheter can break off (very slim chance), removal of plaques (calcium - talking about rotablation; thrombus - thrombectomy) Designed to restore blood flow to a roi. Need to think about how it is affected the cells/vessels downstream - not so much the blockage location. O2 supply to the cells dictates whether we are going to go ahead & try to fix the area - remember: they are invasive, only done if benefit is worth it. Sometimes the area downstream is already dead or there is a blind pouch - risks are increased if the blockage is removed.
