Document Summary

You need more water than other nutrient. You can only survive a few days without water, versus weeks without other nutrients. Water makes up about 60% of your body weight. Water makes up 75% of weight of skeletal muscle and 25% of weight of fat tissue. Every cell contains fluid and is surrounded by fluid. About 90% of the water in our body is from liquids and food we consume, the other 10% is metabolic water. We lose water in urine, sweat, and feces. The diagram to the right is an example of how water is formed in the body (that 10% that is formed metabolically instead of consumed as liquid or foods). The last carrier protein transfers a pair of electrons to oxygen at the end of the electron transport chain and water is formed. Women are closer to meeting that adequate intake level.
