Hard times and survival: 1920s image and reality (cid:1) (cid:1) Difficulties drag on for most of the time and gets worse in 1930s. Number of cars were extremely small, appliances were rare, etc. Best that most people could do to participate was go to movies. 1930"s is the dirty 30s: economically the worst decade the great depression . Gender: big ticket: railways, small ticket: recovered fast. Garment industries: people needed clothes: lot of the industries that aren"t hit as hard are female run. Asian immigrants suffered terribly, no employment, no govt support. Age: some people in their 50"s got layed off. Some didn"t work again until 1940"s: lost generation. Young people faced hardship: people would ride the rails . Hop onto a train and go from town to town: throught the mid 1930"s, there were young men drifting the rails from town to town.
