Document Summary

Information-processing theory is one theory (there are others) that seeks to conceptualize how decisions are made and appropriate motor actions are executes: one way to explain observations during motor performance. I. e. gun in a sprint run: this approach is used to develop models that describe the flow of information in the human that results in a motor action. Certainty and reliability is a measure of expertise. Think of the human as an abstract black box. Until very recently it has been impossible to (cid:498)look inside(cid:499) the head and cns. Manipulate different stimulus and analyze the behaviors. Input enters human and human acts on this input by producing an output. Information flow is captured by hypothesizing pressing subsystems that exist within the box (these must be inferred) This approach allows analyses of task components in terms of: stimulus identification (sensory/perceptual) Button is presented (visual sensation: response selection (cognitive) Must decide what to do with button: movement programming (action)
