Document Summary

Historically, both ocd and ptsd belonged to anxiety disorders, sharing core feature (anxious distress). Force us to ask questions about how we separate one disorder from another. If we knew the causes, we would be able to separate disorders much more easily. Causes change how we approach treatment and how we understand ourselves, how we talk/communicate in society: ptsd and ocd often result from traumatic events or episodes, compulsions often follow trauma. Shell shock = after war, soldiers jump at the sound of a door slam etc. Disorders are adapted based on certain issues in our generation/society/global issues etc. War experience, victims of violence, industrial accidents etc. Does not happen over night (i. e. night after traumatic event) Can take months for people to even begining showing symptoms. You can not be diagnosed with ptsd if you experience trauma via tv.
