Historically, both ocd and ptsd belonged to anxiety disorders, sharing core feature (anxious distress) or part of neuroses. Force us to ask questions bout how we separate 1 disorder from another. Ptsd & ocd often result from traumatic events or episodes. Are these all the same thing: shell shock from war, weird movements and traumatic reflexes to certain things soldiers from ww2 diagnosed w/ combat fatigue . Category to be diagnosed w/ptsd has widened to not just soldiers. War experience, victims of violence, industrial accidents: likely candidates: rare dsm mention of etiology (causes) doesn"t develop overnight sometimes months pass until the disorder develops. To be diagnosed, a person (or loved one) must have been exposed to a traumatic event, involving actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violation cannot occur simply due to exposure via tv (ex. Can cause person to feel detached or unreal (every day life), have d j vu or numbness to events.
