Ptsd & ocd often result from traumatic events or episodes. Category to be diagnosed w/ptsd has widened to not just soldiers. War experience, victims of violence, industrial accidents: likely candidates: rare dsm mention of etiology (causes) doesn"t develop overnight sometimes months pass until the disorder develops. To be diagnosed, a person (or loved one) must have been exposed to a traumatic event, involving actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violation cannot occur simply due to exposure via tv (ex. Can cause person to feel detached or unreal (every day life), have d j vu or numbness to events.
