Development of social security and pensions: these income sources allow them to live alone. Subsidized housing allowing women to live alone on a low income. Older adults prefer intimacy at a distance don"t want to live with them. Women would rather live alone and have less of a desire to remarry. Large decrease of women living alone among women aged 80 84. Proportion of men living alone has remained stable. This is because men are living longer closer of the gender gap.
