Cultural region: an area in which there is a degree of homogeneity in cultural characteristics; areas with similar landscape. A landscape (or cultural landscape) is defined as. The outcome of interactions between people and their environments. Cultural regions are often associated with characteris (iconic or symbolic) images of people, places, activities etc . Culture: the way of life of a group of people. Each cultural group adapts (cf. cultural adaptation) to their local environment in different way. E. g. new languages (or dialects or accents), new religions, new ways of dress, new food, new traditions, new recreational activities, etc . Where and how they live their lives. Many forms of settlements eg. rural and urban. Eg. rural hamlets, towns, ciities, mega cities. Urban and rural settlements are usually defined in relation to one another; whatever is not urban, is rural (and vice versa) Urban = built up", large population, densely settled. We will define this more precisely next class.
