Culture: the (cid:858)(cid:449)ay of life(cid:859) of a group people. Each cultural group adapts (cultural adaptation to their local environment in different ways) Ex. new languages (or dialect or accents), religions, new ways of dress, new foods, new traditions, new recreations, etc. Among these adaptations is how people live. Where and how they live their lives. Many forms of settlement, ex. rural and urban. Urban and rural settlements are usually defined in relation to one another; whatever is not urban, is rural (and vice versa) Ur(cid:271)a(cid:374)= (cid:862)(cid:271)uild up(cid:863), large population, densely settled. Urban forms of living are relatively recent: forms of settlement: a window into culture and cultural adaptation. Consider the canadian (and american) pioneer experience. Clustered settlement: ie. hamlet, village, town, etc. Rural depopulation- 100 year in the making. Contradictory evidence about the existence of urban to rural migration (rural re- population) via. Transition zone between urban (suburban) and rural area.
