Political units (ex. countries): the basic division of the world. It reflects the current cultural differences, as well as historical influences such as colonialism and globalization, etc. Political geography: the study of the geographical manifestations of political phenomena - especially the effect that states have on individual and group behaviours. The relationship between states and former colonies. How and why states are organized into regional groupings, both formally and informally. The forces of conflict between political entities. The function, demarcation and enforcement of territorial boundaries. Most cultural groups (as defined by language, or religion, or common ancestry, Nation: a group of people sharing a common culture and an emotional etc. ) see themselves as having a national identity - ex. They are a nation attachment to some territory: nations are cultural entities. Nation = a cohesive/singular cultural group (defined by language, religion, ethnicity, etc. ) Nationalism: an expression of belonging to a nation - this expression may take a variety of forms.
