Document Summary

Satisfaction utility - when consumers consume goods/services, they derive satisfaction from their consumption. We assume consumers try to maximize their utility from consuming bundle of goods/services. Consumption bundle- set of all goods/services that individual consumers consume. Consuming various amounts of goods/services will give different levels of utility. Utility function gives total utility, tu, generated by consumption bundle. To measure utility, we use units called utils. Every individual values consumption bundles differently than others. Ex total utility of 1000 utils from going to home games when someone else may only get utility of 20. Ex hungry pizza lover, gets lot of satisfaction from first piece, even more from second. With each subsequent slice you eat, the total satisfaction increases, but each slice doesn"t taste was good as the last because he"s getting full. Gets to the point where the last slice is too much and now he feels sick. Measuring his satisfaction for various amounts of pizza and assigns utils.
