Document Summary

Assume: consumes maximize utility from consuming bundles of goods and services. Utility function: total utility (tu) generated from consumption bundle: units: util. Someone gets a utility of 1000 utils from wings, but a vegetarian would get 10 utils. Matt is hungry and eats his first slice of pizza and then he wants seconds. He keeps eating the pizza, but as he eats, he gets full and thus, the next slice doesn"t taste as good as the previous one. His last slice made him feel sick so the last slice took away from his enjoyment of the meal. Matt"s tu increases up to the 5th slice. By then, he"s so full that eating the 6th slice makes him worse off then if he stopped at the 5th slice. Marginal utility- change in tu from consuming one additional unit of a good. Consumers face two constraint when purchasing: their income, the price of the good.
