Importance of socialization and orientation: new-comer oriented programs. The first days of a job are salient in your impression of the workplace. People start jobs with anxiety about what the job will be like. Organizations can help people feel comfortable with their role in the org, and their functions with socialization and orientation. There is a risk of early turnover at the beginning of the job, so organizations need to smooth the transition. Socialization: process by which new employees become effective members of a company. Become embedded in social fabric: develop work relationships, people come and leave as a result of other people. Orientation: familiarizing new employees with their job and company. Onboarding: orientation for new managers (newer version of orientation, sounds better, but the two are interchangeable). The organization will provide you information about the company, history, policies, formal elements, informal elements, etc. to bring you into the narrative of the company.
