Last week we looked at stage 1 of piaget sensory development stage. Children (5-11 years-old) and media: they liked colour, repetition, however, know we are looking at the second stage. The moderate discrepancy hypothesis: notion where marketers, researchers, psychologists examine every age group, what is done in terms of research is to take common characteristics (not too far where they deviate in their interests. Looking at second stage where child looks at words and images, looking at stories kids are interested in. These things reflect symbolic thinking: the idea that an object can stand and represent something else [the banana example] The colours, the images are impacting me. In this stage they are focusing on narrative aspects and physical action. Action dinosaurs, quest to rescue the princess. Young children will not be able to watch this. Emphasis on clothes fashion [customize outfits] 1 quest (as oppose to multiquest) simple, less adventurous (this is just the modern hypothesis)
