Energy: energy exist as kinetic energy, potential energy, or both. In biological systems, energy can be grouped into several categories. Radiant energy: thermal regulation (heat loss and gain within an organism to maintain homeostasis, photoreception. Electrical energy: muscle activation and neurons, excitable cells, can control the gradient to maintain homeostasis, muscle contraction and action potential, electric organs, produce pulse of electricity to stun prey or create electrical fields. Thermal energy: brown fat, rediscovering in adult humans but generally in small mammals, can be used to get rid of energy quick, sweating shivering fever. Chemical energy: metabolism, breaking glucose (catabolism, used to run motor proteins/ ion pumping. Phosphorylation covalent bond adds/removes a chemical group that alters activity. Krebs cycle (or tricarboxylic acid cycle: acetyl-coa enter the kerbs cycle into the mitochondrial matrix, this results in more atp, as well as more nadh and fadh2 to enter oxphos.
