Document Summary

What are the different types of energy that are most relevant in biology: radiant energy, energy released form an object and transmitted by waves. Chemiluminescence: mechanical energy (potential and kinetic, energy used to move objects. Elastic storage: kangaroo: electrical energy, movement of charged particles, muscle activation. Electric organs: thermal energy, movement that serves to increase temperature. Sweating: chemical energy, stored in bonds, motor proteins. The law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted from one form to another but the total amount of energy is (cid:272)o(cid:374)sta(cid:374)t (cid:894)ie. you (cid:272)a(cid:374)(cid:374)ot (cid:862)(cid:373)ake(cid:863) e(cid:374)ergy(cid:895). Diffusion gradients are often created across biological membranes. If a molecule is uncharged, it can only make a chemical gradient. A charged molecule that forms a chemical gradient influences the electrical gradient. An electrochemical gradient occurs when a chemical and electrical gradient occur. When it has a lot of energy (activation energy). Chemical reactions are always a way for energy to be transferred.
