Document Summary

There are 4 core macromolecules: phospholipids, proteins, polysaccharides, nucleic. Continued cell division allows us to reach about 10 trillion cells as adults. The cells that divide differ in function, and they are all eukaryotic cells; they have a nucleus which contains all the genetic material in our body. However, we must count prokaryotic cells as well, we carry many passengers who do not share common genetic heritage, which makes most of them prokaryotic cells (includes bacteria cells) Prokaryotic cells are cells which do not contain a true nucleus. There are about 10x as many prokaryotic cells in the human body as our eukaryotic cells. These cells make up 2-3% of our body mass. Most of these cells are harmless, and actually benefit us. Others are dangerous but are kept in order by the immune system. Definition of microbiome: a population of microorganisms or microbes within our bodies. Microorganisms are organisms that are invisible to naked eye but visible to microscope.
