Document Summary
Cell division from fertilized embryo: mitotic cell division. Eukaryotic cells: have nucleus that contains most of the genetic material in the cell. Prokaryotic cells: do not contain a nucleus. In our body: we contain more prokaryotic that eukaryotic cells. Make up about 2-3% of our body mass. Most are harmless and important provide essential functions. Some harmful but are contained/managed by immune system. Human micro biome: a population of microorganisms or microbes within our body, microorganisms not visible to the naked eye only by microscope. ~10000 distinct microbes on/in a healthy human body. Inhabitant of upper respiratory tract + oral cavity: contribute to formation of dental plaque. One of the first bacteria to colonize germ-free newborns oral cavity + gastrointestinal tract. Straphylococcus haemolyticus: resides on skin, harmless on skin, pathogenic if gets inside body. Infection commonly lead to activation on immune system. Bacteroides thetadomicron: predominant in intestinal bacteria, makes enzymes that help breakdown plants that we ingest.
