PSYC 412 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Stimulant, Social Skills, Neuropsychological Test
Document Summary
Or rule: a given symptom is present if any informant says it is. And rule: a given symptom is present only if all informants say it is. The dsm does not specify how to combine information from different informants: Dsm-iv field trials used the or rule for symptoms. However, it is important to rule our biological causes. Neuropsychological tests of cognition and attention are sometimes used. At present, these are not used to diagnose, but they can provide valuable information about functioning/symptoms that are not observable. A continuous string of letters is present and told to respond to a stimulus e. g. the letter x, only after seeing another stimulus e. g. the letter a. If the letter x is not preceded by the letter a: do not respond. Missing the letter x when you should have responded is thought to be a measure of inattention.
