PSYC 412 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Conduct Disorder, Truancy, Monoamine Oxidase A
Document Summary
The difference in the persistently poor is not significant. Significant disruptive symptoms decrease in the ex-poor group. Moderator: a variable that influences the direction strength of the relationship between two variables. E. g. age as a moderator of treatment effects. Mediator: a variable that explains the relationship between two other variables. E. g. child abuse may mediate the relationship between ses and conduct; ses is associated with child abuse, and it is that child abuse that is associated with conduct disorder. Examined the possible mediators of the association between increase in income and decrease in behavioural symptoms. Found that it was increased parental supervision. Increased in income led to improved supervision, which in turn led to decreased behaviour problems. Gender differences: conduct problems are 2-4x more common in male children. The gap narrows and there are smaller differences in early teens. There is an increase in girls engaging in covert, non-aggressive antisocial behaviour.
